HISTORY

In 1961, Frank Grimes and Tyler Kerr decided to pursue their own business. They founded G&K Machine Company to specialize in the machining and repair needs of the underground mining industry. Initially met with met with success, they decided a specialty was needed to secure the future. Large replacement open gearing for industrial steel making and mining presented an opportunity. Since then G&K Machine has made gears not just a unique capability but a family affair. In the past five decades the company has expanded, seeing three generations of well-trained ownership. The 1980s saw the addition of computer controlled equipment to the roster. A need to stay with current technology and capabilities. The 2000’s had the first 4 axis machines and a move of locations across Denver. The original location off Jason street on the west side of Denver is now a power substation. But the opportunity allowed G&K to grown in size and quality of the building. We have since filled the new building and as always need more room.

The 2010’s saw big changes with the installation on the largest mill yet, a Hurco VMX84Ti and a SH210 gear hobing machine. The first CNC gear cutting machine installed so far at G&K. The QC department also got some attention with the first CMM being installed, bringing inspection of parts to a new level of detail. 2022 we brought in our first CNC Grinder. Our growth and expansion and attention to detail has allowed us to serve every industry, from automotive to aerospace. Allowing us to build relationships with customers, some lasting over 30 years.
